Individual Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is about gaining self-awareness and learning to locate and hone your own resources. To this end, your therapist may serve as a guide to provide a safe space and to help the process. Contrary to popular belief, therapy is not about being given advice; instead, a skilled therapist opens doors to allow the individual, in a completely safe environment, to discover what is happening inside.
Psychotherapy is about learning to hear the voice that is your own, discerning self in relation to others and tapping into the resources that are buried deep inside.
We provide individual therapy to adolescents and adults. Psychotherapy is about gaining self-awareness, finding your voice, and unlocking the mysteries of your life story in a confidential setting.

As you engage in therapy, you will learn to:

  • Cope effectively
  • Manage stress and worry
  • Understand your unique personality
  • Improve your social skills
  • Be mindful and aware of your subconscious/unconscious
  • Find meaning and purpose

Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a treatment strategy that helps develop body-sensory awareness and psycho-physiological mastery. Anxiety and emotional stress have been shown to have corresponding physical markers, such as increased muscle tension, vasoconstriction (cold hands), and galvanic skin response (sweating). Biofeedback training uses sensors to measure one’s physiological state, and this provides real-time indicators of the individual’s psychological state. The data is provided as auditory and visual feedback, and this can be used to guide relaxation training and meditation. Biofeedback can be very effective in treating anxiety and a number of other conditions related to stress.

Typically, sessions occur two to three times per week, with an average of six to eight sessions to gain mastery.

As you engage in biofeedback, you will learn to:

  • Manage stress and worry
  • Reduce hyperarousal
  • Increase awareness of body-mind

Couples Counseling

Your relationship is worth it.  Greater Heights Behavioral Health provides therapy services uniquely designed for couples.  All sessions are completely confidential and held between the couple and therapist.  As psychotherapists, our job is to provide some safe parameters for a couple to do relationship work as a shared undertaking. Therefore, we do not talk with either member without the other’s presence, and one is never singled out as the “identified patient” or person-to-blame.

Couples who complete couples counseling learn to:

  • Communicate well
  • Be vulnerable and trust one another
  • Prepare for relationship transitions (marriage, divorce, etc.)
  • Understand each other’s bids for connection

Group Counseling

Build on the strength of others as you experience group counseling.  Although this service is less frequent at Greater Heights Behavioral Health, groups are held when there is sufficient demand.  There have been many requests for a non-religious men’s group, which will be available as an open group to join at any time.  Greater Heights Behavioral Health carefully screen potential members to determine if group or individual treatment is a better fit to promote group cohesion and individual progress.  If you are interested in joining a group, contact us today to find out what is available!

Clients who complete group counseling learn to:

  • Share with others and feel accepted
  • Support and be supported
  • Process emotions openly
  • Gain interpersonal awareness
  • Develop greater confidence
  • Affirm parts of identity and personality

Consultation

No matter how experienced, every therapist should have ongoing consultation and support. Our consultation services are broad, ranging from individual case consultation to business or professional consultation. Our team brings a broad range of clinical experience to our consultation practice, including inpatient, play therapy, anger resolution, juvenile probation, assessment and testing, mood and psychotic disorders, and more.

Supervision

We offer supervision services to clinicians-in-training and pre-licensure.  Supervision is limited to availability, and so early contact is encouraged!  Christopher Jenkin is licensed to supervise a wide range of therapeutic techniques, including individual, group, and couples therapy, with specialty modalities such as biofeedback and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
